Gino’s Pasta Café is located in the Colonia Palmira region of Tegucigalpa, in front of the Hotel Plaza San Martin and is open mostly for lunch, except on Wednesdays. The place is small and cozy, adding to its ambience. The staff is friendly, but nothing beats the down-to-earth mentality of the owner, a very successful man in business and politics, who is always around to converse with the customers.
There is no question that the best way to make Italian food is with simple and classic quality ingredients. Gino’s accomplishes this goal with many of its dishes. The pomodoro sauce, for example, embodies fresh ingredients - one can taste the chunks of tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, garlic and basil. Simple, yet exquisite. The same can be said about the Pasta con Funghi plate, in which every ingredient - mushrooms, extra virgin olive oil, fresh parsley and garlic, with a hint of red pepper - can be seen and tasted. The house focaccia, with bits of fresh rosemary and sea salt on top, is crisp outside and chewy inside.
There is parking on the street in front of the restaurant but there is only room for about three cars. We couldn’t find parking the last time we went, even after going around the block a few times. Luckily an employee next door allowed us to park in front of the pub.
